Liver: fat burning organ

Your liver is the most important detoxification and fat burning organ in the body. It regulates fat metabolism by a complicated set of biochemical pathways. It also can pump excessive fat out of the body through the bile into the small intestines. If the diet is high in fibre, this unwanted fat will be carried out from the body via the bowel actions. Thus, the liver is an impressive ‘body tool’ for keeping weight under control as it is both a fat burning organ and fat pumping organ.
By avoiding the below foods from your diet for a mere 10-day period, you will give your liver a much needed rest. This will allow the liver to fulfil its ‘fat burning’ and detoxifying functions to its maximum ability:
1. Wheat
Containing an unfriendly to digestive tract protein ‘gluten’ (a type of gluten called ‘gliadin’), not digested thoroughly wheat i.e. bread, pasta etc. is passed through the gut wall and recognised as toxins in the bloodstream. For the liver to burn stored fat cells effectively, it must be detoxified on a regular basis. Hence, it is important to stop/limit intake of products containing wheat to allow the liver to focus on detoxifying the toxins without introducing the new ones.
Alternatives to Wheat are:
Oats (amaranth), buckwheat, corn, millet, maize, quinoa, rice
2. Milk
Cow’s milk is the most common food allergy adversely affecting any detoxification process. It is not due to the lactose (the sugar in milk) but the protein: very often both allergies occur together. If you are sensitive to milk protein, the immune system will treat it as toxins. The liver will have to work double and triple hard to deal with toxins created by milk intake and not concentrating on other toxic elements that are already in the body.
Alternatives to Cow’s milk are:
Rice, almond, quinoa or soya milk, soya yoghurt, coconut milk, non-hydrogenated vegetable oil spreads.
3. Caffeine
Contrary to what you all read in papers regarding caffeine being high in antioxidants, the body treats caffeine as a toxin and we need to eliminate toxins from our diet to give our liver a chance to cleanse the system. What is more, you will gain more energy as caffeine is only a short-term energy fix. You will also stabilise your blood-sugar balance which is the key for energy as well as weight control.
Alternatives to Caffeine are:
Green tea, rooibosche (red bush) teas, red berry or rosehip teas, lemon and ginger teas, juice http://www.purifyne.com/our_juices.php

4. Alcohol
The more alcohol you consume the more antioxidants you need. the liver can only deal with only certain amount by using special enzyme (‘acetyldehyde oxidase’). If this enzyme is overloaded or underfunctioning you left with too much toxic substance that ultimately lead to hangover.
No alternatives to Alcohol, stop drinking it for at least 10 days.
5. Bad fats
There are good (Omega 3, 6, 9) and bad fats – Trans-fats containing hydrogenated oil that found in deep-fried foods, doughnuts and other fast/convenient foods. Trans and hydrogenated fats are difficult to digest and slow to detoxify clogging the liver for long periods when it could be dealing with other toxins. What is more, deep-fried foods or any ‘crispy fat’ provides your body with a large amount of oxidants that need to be detoxify with antioxidants.

Alternatives foods you can have are:
Baked, poached and steamed oily fish, scrambled eggs, raw nuts and seeds spreads (tahini or pumpkin-seed butter), raw nuts and seeds, raw cold-pressed nut and seed oils or take some ‘Udo’s Oil Ultimate Oil Blend’ supplements in a liquid or capsules form as it will provide your body with Omega 3, 6 & 9 fatty acids.

Udo’s Oil is vital for increasing metabolic rates and energy levels, amongst many other benefits Essential Fatty Acids (EFA) assist in burning more calories, losing weight, suppressing appetite, eliminating water retention and strengthening the immune system.
